The PlateStak automated microplate handler is a solution for addressing increased capacity and unattended processing needs by automating the handling and storage of microplates and RoboRack tip boxes. The system incorporates a bi-directional shuttle that transports microplates or tip boxes from cassette to cassette or to programmable locations on the diving board.

The diving board extends out from the PlateStak automated microplate handler, making the microplates available on the working deck of the JANUS® G3 workstation. It is equipped with an onboard controller and multiple sensors to monitor microplate position for precision and accuracy, to enable easy integration with a variety of liquid handling workstations.

Cherry Picking Applications

The PlateStak automated microplate handler supports microplate storage and barcode reading required for cherry picking applications. With the PlateStak automated microplate handler, the barcode label on each plate is read and then moved to the pipetting area. Once the cherry picking pipette steps are completed, the PlateStak automated microplate handler up-stacks that plate and down-stacks the next.

Expands Disposable Tip Inventory

The PlateStak automated microplate handler supplies RoboRack disposable tips to the JANUS G3 workstation when new boxes of tips are needed. Each cassette accommodates up to 12 boxes of disposable tips, enabling a maximum tip box capacity of 24 tip boxes per PlateStak automated microplate handler.

Effortless Plate Transfer

The double diving board PlateStak automated microplate handler models can shuttle microplates between two different JANUS G3 liquid handlers to enable greater throughput and greater flexibility.

Easy Microplate Loading

Designed for ease, the stacker cassettes can be filled manually from the top or automatically from the bottom by simply placing the cassette over a stack of plates and pressing down. This efficient bulk-load method saves time and eliminates spillage or dropping of plates.

Cassette Versatility

Each PlateStak automated microplate handler accommodates up to 50 SBS standard microplates, 15 deepwell microplates, or 12 RoboRack tip boxes. Different plate types and tip boxes can be mixed within a cassette for walk-away automation.

Fast & Flexible

With a 10-second cycle time, the PlateStak automated microplate handler can feed microplates and tips to a variety of other instruments. Adding the de-lidding cassette enables lidding and de-lidding of microplates.

Device Integrations:

With a JANUS G3 workstation, up to four PlateStak systems can be integrated for unattended feeding of microplates and tip boxes.

Integrating the JANUS Modular Dispense Technology (MDT) head and JANUS Varispan pipetting arms enable direct dispense and aspiration to and from 96- and 384- well microplates on the PlateStak diving board.

An optional MDT integrated gripper, gripper arm or the Gripper™ integration platform can pick and place plates and RoboRack tip boxes onto positions on the JANUS deck.
